Dr. Matt Demers to give 2018 Last Lecture

The Department is proud to announce that Dr. Matt Demers has been selected to give the 2018 Faculty Last Lecture.

The Last Lecture offers graduating students an opportunity to come together and reflect upon their experiences at Guelph, bring closure to the time that they have spent here, and celebrate their many accomplishments both inside and outside of the classroom. The event features an address by a graduating student who has competed for the honour, a distinguished alumnus, and a faculty member will also offer words of inspiration to the Class of 2018.

Professor Gerarda Darlington winner of 2018 John Bell Award

The Department is thrilled to announce that Professor Gerarda Darlington will be awarded the 2018 John Bell Award.

The John Bell Award recognizes outstanding contributions to university education at the University of Guelph. The award is made in honour of Professor John Bell who served the University with distinction from 1972 to 1987.

College Royal Escape Room

Math & Stats Club wins College Royal award!

The Math & Stats club set up an Escape Room this past weekend at College Royal. The event was extremely popular with our campus guests and the sign-in sheet was filled almost immediately! The club won First Prize among all CEPS club displays! Congratulations!!

Faculty Position Available: Assistant Professor in Computational Statistics, Tenure Track

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics is seeking candidates for a full-time, tenure-track (12 months per year) research-intensive faculty position in Computational Statistics at the Assistant Professor level. The position will be in support of the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) project Food from Thought, Agricultural Systems for a Healthy Planet.

Professor Allan Willms published in Royal Society Open Science

We are pleased to announced that Department of Mathematics and Statistics Associate Professor Allan Willms, University Professor Emeritus William Langford and collaborator Petko Kitanov have had their paper "Huygens’ clocks revisited" accepted for publication in the prestigious Royal Society Open Science.

Monica Cojocaru

Professor Monica Cojocaru awarded NSERC Discovery Grant and Discovery Accelerator Supplement

We are pleased to announced that Department of Mathematics and Statistics professor Monica Cojocaru has been awarded a $120,000 NSERC Discovery Grant and $120,000 Discovery Accelerator Supplement to focus on the development of the notion of generalized Nash games (GNE), tackling questions of existence of solutions for such games, computational methods for finding these solutions, and the role this modelling concept can play in applied problems of populations.

Graduate student Harry Gaebler awarded major scholarship

We are pleased to announce that Harry Gaebler, current Master's student and incoming Doctoral student in Applied Mathematics, has been awarded the doctoral Highdale Farms - Arthur and Rosmarie Spoerri Scholarship in Natural Sciences.
