Abstract: Sunspot Area and Plage Area Regressed Against Solar Flux
The first half of this talk presents and informal introduction to DRAO (Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory in Penticton BC). The second half of the talk presents a brief introduction to the sun, sunspots and solar radio flux. It’s followed by presentation of a linear regression model where flux is a linear function of total sunspot area (proxy for the thermal gyroresonance contribution to flux) and total plage area (proxy for the thermal free-free contribution to flux), including a constant term (proxy for thermal contribution to flux from the rest of the solar disc e.g. quiet sun contribution to flux). This is collaborative work with Dr. Ken Tapping (NRC) that resulted from a sabbatical leave in W20.
