Many properties of quantum systems, such as entanglement, can be viewed as resources. Recognizing the resource-like nature of these properties (within the confines of some constraints) has led to new insights. I will introduce the structure of quantum resource theories and discuss how general resource theories can be characterized in terms of monotones and transformation witnesses. In particular, we study entanglement under the restriction to local operations and classical communication (LOCC), as well as operations that preserve positivity under partial transpose (PPT-operations).
