Chris works as an Analyst in Advanced Analytics for Economical Insurance. Working in Advanced Analytics has given him a great opportunity to exercise the statistical modelling skills and statistics knowledge he gained through his time studying at the University of Guelph. As an Analyst at Economical, he has been heavily involved with both the technical and non-technical aspects of data-driven, project-based work. The typical responsibilities that accompany this role are: data cleansing, preparation, and reconciliation; model development, validation, and deployment; documentation and report creation; and connecting and presenting to various stakeholders on project results.
During his time with Economical he has been involved with several projects. As an example, he established market penetration and risk concentration metrics to better understand the spatial distribution of Economical’s auto/property policies and created GIS, web-based tools to allow users to interact with this spatial data. He also analyzed the results of marketing campaigns to determine ROI and the quality of business generated from the campaigns, as well as developed and validated statistical models which estimate the likelihood of flood in given geographical areas. While this work has been challenging, the knowledge base he developed in the Masters program at Guelph allowed him to contribute effectively and successfully to each project.
