Abstract: Anaerobic digestion is a complex naturally occurring process during which organic matter is broken down into biogas and various byproducts in an oxygen-free environment. It is used for waste and wastewater treatment and for production of such biogas as methane that can be used to produce energy from animal waste. We consider several different simplifications of the Anaerobic each model (ADM1). Implications for optimizing biogas production are explored. We also consider the effects of stochastic perturbations of one of the models using several different numerical schemes having different interpretations.
